INDIGENOUS

Indigenous Arts  are centred around  storytelling. They are used as chronicles to convey knowledge of the land, events and beliefs of the local people. The use of symbols is an alternate way to write down stories of cultural significance, teaching survival and use of the land. Ashwini has been influenced by the indigenous arts of India ever since she was four years old. Her first memory  was an inspiring  paisley motif  from an antique kashmiri embroidered crewel work heirloom. Thereafter she was transfixed by the art of  Madhubani, introduced to her by an artist  as a teenager on train rides to boarding school  more than forty years ago.
